Clinics & Services.

Keeping you healthy, at every stage of life.

Our Clinics & Services.

  • Maternity Clinic

Full pregnancy care is available at the surgery. In nearly all cases the majority of your antenatal care will be carried out in the practice by the doctors and midwife with just a few trips to the hospital.

When telephoning for an antenatal or postnatal appointment please tell the receptionist that this is what you want so that you can be booked in to see the nurse and the doctor at the same time. It is helpful if you remember to bring a sample of urine in a clean bottle to the surgery.

  • Cervical Screening

Smear tests for women involve an examination of the cervix (neck of the womb) to check for changes before cancer develops. These changes can be treated and cancer prevented. We recommend that all women aged between 25 to 65 who are or have been sexually active, should have regular smears. If you are aged 25-49 you should have one every three years and every five years if you are aged 50-65.

Smears are carried out by either the doctors or practice nurses. You will be sent a reminder when your smear is due by NHS England. Smears are very important, so even if you do not wish to have a smear, please come and discuss the matter with the doctor and do not just ignore the letter.

Cervical smear results are sent by NHS England.

  • Family Planning

All aspects of family planning advice are covered. Both the doctors and practice nurses are qualified and able to discuss this with you.

Also available is counselling about sterilisation, coil fitting and pre-pregnancy advice.

  • Immunisations

We offer a full childhood immunisation service at the practice which is carried out by our practice nurses.

  • Patients Aged Over 75

During the course of the year the doctor or nurse may run through a simple questionnaire to check your health. If necessary, you will be given a physical check-up.

If you have not been seen during the course of the year, you can request this check-up by making an appointment or, if you are unable to attend the surgery, you may request a home visit.

  • Minor Surgeries

All doctors are registered to undertake minor surgical procedures such as removal of infected or ingrowing toenails, or removal of unsightly warts, etc.

Having a minor surgical procedure done by your doctor means you do not have to join the hospital waiting lists. The procedures are normally carried out at Henwick Halt Medical Centre.
